What’s On – April 2019

With school holidays, the Easter long weekend and ANZAC Day all falling in April, it’s a jam-packed month full of activities for the whole family. From open-air cinemas to twilight markets, petting zoos to comedy festivals, we have you covered if you’re looking for things to do in the west this April.

 

The Wyndham Art Prize

4 April–2 June
The Wyndham Art Prize is one of Victoria’s greatest celebrations of local art, exhibiting in the Wyndham Art Gallery from 4 April–2 June. This year the art prize features 96 artworks by 28 different local artists. Join the opening night on Thursday 4 April, 6:30–8:30pm, for a night of art, music, food and drinks.

Moonlight Cinema

6, 13, 20, 27 April
Lay out the picnic rug for a family movie night under the stars. Avengers, Infinity War will be screening at Featherbrook Community Centre in Point Cook from 6pm. Enjoy the film, along with fairy floss, popcorn and snow cones. This is a free event.

Autumn Festival at The Races

6 April
The Autumn Festival brings together all our favourite things at the local Werribee Racing Club – markets, food trucks, an outdoor cinema, and country racing. Bring the family along from 12pm for a fun-filled Saturday at the races. Event entry is a gold coin donation.

The Park Children’s Animal Farm

7, 14, 21 April
Join the petting zoo at The Park, on Watton Street in Werribee on Sunday the 7, 14 or 21 April from 12–2pm. Meet some new furry friends, as The Park becomes a mini zoo of cute and cuddly rescued farm animals on Sundays in April.

Kids Cookie Making Workshop 

9 April
The school holidays are here and it’s time for the kids to get creative in the kitchen, just in time for Easter. For $10, 6–12 year old kids can learn to make and decorate Easter themed cookies from scratch at Manor Lakes Community Learning Centre on Tuesday 9 April, 4:00–5:30pm.

Science for Kids

11 April
Learn all about creepy crawly invertebrates at the Point Cook Pop Up Park on Thursday 11 April, 2–4pm. Kids aged two to eight years old can join the free, science fun in the park. Learn all about spiders, make your own playdoh invertebrate or get crafty with spider silk to create a complex web of your own.

Wyndham’s Annual Commemorative Parade

14 April
In the lead up to ANZAC Day, Wyndham’s Annual Commemorative Parade will be held along Watton Street from the Cultural Centre at 2.20pm Sunday 14 April. Join this local ANZAC march, finishing with a wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph at Station Place.

 

ANZAC Day Dawn Service

25 April
The ANZAC Day Dawn Service will take part at the Cenotaph in Werribee to help remember those soldiers who have served in past and present conflicts around the world. The service will commence at 6:30am and is organised by Werribee R.S.L.
