Five best local places to dine mid-week

Wyndham Vale and Werribee aren’t short of good restaurants, nor those perfect for a mid-week dinner.

Some of these really stand out – great food, friendly service, a broad menu and casual enough for a family with young kids. Here’s a pick of our top five recommendations for mid-week dinners nearby Windermere.

Truck Stop Deluxe

This little slice of America has settled in extremely well in Werribee. The West-coast diner-style burger joint is filled with neon lights, quirky road signs, and last but not least… a life-size truck inside the shop! Truck Stop Deluxe has indoor and outdoor seating, as well as takeaway available. Although best known for its burgers, Truck Stop Deluxe also sets the bar very high when it comes to fried chicken, shakes, cocktails and desserts.

Sam’s Catch

Make the most of the views across the water to Melbourne’s CBD from Wyndham Harbour. The breakwater is a popular spot for local fishers, and the perfect place to watch the sun go down and enjoy an early dinner by the water. If you don’t have any luck on the rods, nearby Sam’s Catch has all the fish and chip shop favourites, as well as burgers and Fish of the Day specials. The seafood is super fresh, the service is quick and Wyndham Harbour would have to be one of Melbourne’s best waterfront picnic spots.

Ploy Thai

You just can’t go wrong at Ploy Thai. This is arguably the most authentic Thai restaurant in Werribee. Ploy Thai is family-run, serving a huge selection of traditional and modern dishes from around Thailand. The Thai inspired decor, delicious fresh food and very friendly service are what keeps locals returning to Ploy Thai for their mid-week dinners.

Uncle Leo’s Pizzeria

With almost 30 types of pizza, and 20 types of pasta, as well as an extensive menu of entrees, mains and desserts, you won’t run out of options at Uncle Leo’s Pizzeria. As local as it gets, right in the heart of Werribee on Watton Street, this is a great family-friendly restaurant. Uncle Leo’s Pizzeria has vegetarian and gluten free options. Home delivery is also available.

Commercial Hotel

From parma and wine night on Tuesdays, burgers and beers on Wednesdays, to roast dinners on Sundays – there’s a different reason to head to the Commercial Hotel for dinner each night of the week. Commercial Hotel is known as “the locals’ local”, set right in the centre of town, with its old school pub vibes, and collected relics and photographs of what once was. The generous sized portions of classic bistro dishes make Commercial Hotel a long time favourite around Werribee.
